The Nasdaq 100 index tracks the 100 largest stocks listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The selected companies are mainly from sectors such as hardware and software, telecommunications, retail and biotechnology – including all the major US technology companies. In contrast, companies from the energy, finance and real estate sectors are not included in the Nasdaq 100 at all.
In the USA, the popular QQQ ETF, which tracks the Nasdaq 100, has been available and managed by Invesco since 1999. It is managed by Invesco. Thought you should know that QQQ is not at all a well-diversified fund, and should not replace a broad market index like the S&P 500 as a core holding in a diversified portfolio. Again, it’s mostly tech companies; sectors like Utilities, Industrials, and Consumer Staples are all but absent from this fund.
QQQM tracks the same index – the NASDAQ 100. The important differentiator for investors looking to buy and hold this index for the long term is the fee. QQQ has a fee of 0.20%, while QQQM is cheaper at 0.15%. If you’re using investing and holding for the long-term, you will definitely enjoy better return with QQQM.
The European counterparts of this ETF uses the ticker symbol CSNDX, EQAC, EQQQ, CNX1, EXXT and SXRV. By going for Ireland-domiciled ETFs, investors from countries without a tax treaty with the US can enjoy lower dividend withholding tax of 15% (instead of the 30% with US ETFs), as well as not being bounded by the US Estate Tax.
